On Friday, September 25th, Always Active celebrated its 19th anniversary in style… Old Hollywood style. Guests arrived dressed for the red carpet, and the afternoon delivered exactly the kind of energy this program is known for: community, movement, and a whole lot of cheering.
A Showcase Worth the Standing Ovation
Kicking off the event was speeches from Health Promotion Manager Genny Pinzon and Sandra Rivas, On Lok Program Director of Senior Programming. Afterwards, the spotlight turned to the participants themselves for the Senior Showcase! Performances from partner sites brought the energy – thanks to 30th Street Senior Center Tai Chi, Mission YMCA, IT Bookman, MNC, CLC Inner Sunset, 30th Street Carnaval Dancers, and Buchanan YMCA.
Instructors and partner sites were recognized for the work that keeps the program running, with many thanks and gratitude expressed. Afterwards, the celebration turned interactive with a live Always Active Master Class, led by Adelaide, Paige, Rowena, Susan, and Diana. This high energy performance got people on their feet dancing once again!
A Look Back, Then a Look at the Red Carpet
After a snack break, a video presentation offered a chance to look back at our program’s story before returning to celebration mode. Funders were recognized, acknowledging the support that keeps Always Active free and accessible to all seniors in San Francisco.
Then, the costume contest! With categories built for Old Hollywood glamour, such as Movie Star and Red Carpet Royalty, this was the moment for big applause and plenty of photos. A raffle closed out the formal program with one more round of excitement before doors closed.
